Forgive my ignorance, but why do companies (OXR and ZFX) make presentations to various institutions?

OXR and ZFX both gave presentations to Macquarie Capital Securities and now ZFX have given a presentation to Merrill Lynch Miami conference.

Are they merely advising these insto's to potentially attract further insto investment? or is it just a mandatory requirement (platform) to notify the market.

Will these presentations have a positive affect on the merged entity?

I'm a little confused as to why they do this considering the same information is available in the quarterly and annual reports.
