Harmony between science and religion is important because they are both means by which reality might be described.
The Bahai Faith teaches that nature is an expression of the Divine Will in the contingent world. Evolutionary theory is simply an expression of the Divine Plan. Everything advances. The purpose of the Bahai Faith is to build an ever advancing civilisation.
The Bahai Faith also teaches the following:
"There is no contradiction between true religion and science. When a religion is opposed to science it becomes mere superstition: that which is contrary to knowledge is ignorance"
The Bahai Faith see science as the "most noble" of human virtues.
