Formula One cars are made of carbon and weigh 733+ kg. The use their shape and airfoils to push down on the road (up to 2,000KG downforce). That's why they can pull 6g in corners without flipping. The carbon shell in formula One cars are also designed to absorb impacts in high speed crashes. So there is no engineering obstacle in path of cars made from carbon fibre. Its more so about re-tooling. Designing new processes that allow carbon fibre cars to be constructed economically.
