Example. I own shares in company which made a treatment for diabetes. They set up a joint partnership company to trial it because trials are expensive and take a long time. At the end of the trial the bigger partner wanted to improve it to make it more effective before commercial launch. So they took over the project and spent ten's of millions changing it to the point the original company could no longer manufacture their own invention and the patent life had virtually run out.
