She was in the city with "friends". Even if all these friends were female they should not have let her travel back to Bundoora alone after midnight.
The attack was opportunistic, not planned so while the death penalty might prove cathartic to us it would have been unlikely to save her. She was in the wrong place at the wrong time all alone with a very evil man.
One thing I would like to know is if the university provide Aiia with any advice on personal safety. Bundoora isn't the nicest part of Melbourne and I wouldn't want to be wandering around it late at night on my own.
