Update: This story issubject to an editorial complaint. Please refer to this statement: https://about.abc.net.au/complaints/background-briefing-29-april-6-may-2018-abc-news-facebook-26-april-2018/

The Federal Senate is due tovote on major changes to the Murray-Darling Basin Plan– if it passes, it willeffectively end further water recovery for the environment in the river system.

The Basin States claim wecan stop water recovery now, because they have 36 engineering projectsthroughout the Basin which can achieve similar outcomes. But critics hotlydispute that. In part two of our investigation into the Murray-Darling BasinPlan, reporter Sarah

Dingle reveals thepoliticking going on behind the scenes for Australia's most expensiveenvironmental program. Note: Professor John Sheehan is now a formerCommission of the Land and Environment Court, not ccting.

Why do so few politicians talk about the Elephant in the Murray Darling?

Southern Australia is getting hotter and drier.
Climate scientists have been saying that for 20 years.

The next drought in the Murray Darling catchment will kill the Golden Goose of $30 billion in productivity

We need to plan for water security by building diversions from northern regions

That is where climate scientists it is going to get wetter.
