This is one of the few occasions when I do agree with your view :-)
Some people seem to have this notion that the "Aussie culture" is something static, that it does not change over time. A very short term and narrow view of a society. Culture is a living creature, like a sponge, it over time absorbs and adopts the best that different people have to offer and spits out those that the majority in it rejects.
