The Southern Cross Celebrations--- 2023.
At 11am on Wednesday 25th, 2023 the returned PM Bill Shorten will give a historic speech to announce the two day Southern Cross Celebrations.
This two day event celebrates our history, diversity and future as a nation. Celebrating Ginan Day on and Australia Day Thursday 26th Jan 2023.
The Gian holiday replaces the outdated Queen’s Birthday holiday and celebrates and acknowledges the past under the Southern Cross that began 50,000 years ago. Ginan is the aboriginal name for the fifth star that constitutes the Southern Cross.
After the PM’s speech the public will be invited to participate in the
The Solemn Walk beginning at Midday.
The 1 km walk will feature placard carrying representatives of current and lost aboriginal tribes and nations. After a minute’s silence to reflect on past misfortunes that befall the aboriginals the public is invited to join themarch in a respectful and reflective manner.
Nationwide cultural events featuring a range of activities—aboriginal painting, dance, song and poetry. Bush foods and medicine identification and preparation.
Ginan Day Awards begin at4.00 pm
1. The David Uniapon award for academic excellence.
2. Cathy Freeman award for most outstanding female athlete.
3. The Adam Goodes award for the most outstanding male athlete under 25
4. Science and Technology award for research into current scientific issues.
5. Junior school award for Primary School Projects
6. Senior school award for Secondary School Project
7. State leadership awards for under 30 yrs old of Aboriginal descent.
1 hour Documentary: Black on Black will be broadcast at 6.00 pm.
Six aboriginal sports stars take promising African athletes under their wing.
A National telecast of four 15 minute speeches will begin at 8.00 pm based on these topics by guest speakers:
1. What if Australia was colonised by another European power instead of the English?
2. When is a person no longer an aboriginal?
3. What was the good and bad of Christian missionaries from colonisation until the present?
4. How do we nurture leadership and social change in change in aboriginal community’s influences by social and family issues?
The day will end with fireworks at 10 pm followed by 2 hours of dancing, singing and dance parties till midnight.
The 26th Jan celebrations will extend the aboriginal exhibitions and activities including the celebration of family and the melding of ethnic groups into the new Australia.
Australia day awards and activities will continue as in the past.

I think many could go along with that, but the real and underlying problem is the abuse of babies , women and children, i know not confined to the aboriginal people but still a major hurdle that must be addressed and if Ginan Day can help then i am for it. The 4 point discussion forum should provide some food for thought. It would need bi partisan support .
