Malcolm Turnbull has to play two games, the game of public opinion and the game of supporting the Liberal Party. Malcolm is a smart and astute player and no doubt realises that his main game right now is supporting the Liberal Party. Brendon Nelson needs no help whatsoever in demonstrating that he lacks the vision to be the alternative Prime Minister. Malcolm Turnbull's prospects are best served by allowing blundering Brendon to fall over all by himself.

Sometime during the next year or so, someone will tap Brendon on the shoulder or he will do his own version of "the things that batter" and volunteer his own retreat. Malcolm Turnbull will then be able to assume leadership without blood on his hands.

Meanwhile Kevin's halo will have had that much more time to fade.
