Yep, and the reason 4DS is targeting high-volume high-density memory and *specifically* data centres and cloud computing is because on cost/benefit analysis it falls over for (i) embedded memory and (ii) stand-alone memory devices for the average consumer eg. USB sticks etc

Again, not everyone needs a Porsche to drive or needs an MBA to run a local fish n’ chip shop. For many it’s ‘overkill’. Cost will always govern ‘widest appeal’.

nb. Low-volume, low density ReRAM is still 1000 x faster than Flash, and WBT’s outperforms all new technologies at the lowest cost.

    Must read:

”Among all the current memory technologies, RRAM is attracting much attention since it is compatible with the conventional semi- conductor processes. Memristor-based RRAM is one of the most promising emerging memory technologies and has the potential of being a universal memory technology. It offers the potential for a cheap, simple memory that could compete across the whole spectrum of digital memories, from low-cost, low-performance applications up to universal memories capable of replacing all current market-leading technologies, such as hard disk drives, random-access memories, and Flash memories.”

”Although being a most promising memory element, critical issues for the future development of RRAM devices are reliable, such as data retention and memory endurance. A data retention time of over 10 years can be extrapolated from retention characteristics measured at high temperatures and a memory endurance of over [10 to the 6] cycles. Therefore, a statistical study of reliability, availability, and maintainability is essential for the future development of RRAM.”

Note from the first paragraph that low cost is a big deal?

In my opinion, 4DS can only (cost effectively) do memory for stuff like data centres and cloud computing

    Opinion only, dyor etc
