I don’t know what you do for a living but 400k isn’t a huge income after tax.
I am just electrical trades & do some project management and I get 200k a year before tax. That’s not that good in the better time 300k < 350k has been earned. If you want the right people you pay the correct money.
I think you maybe underestimating BB credentials and knowledge. If he was to go to a large mining house as a Geo with his credentials his salary would be similar. He is a every educated & experienced person in his field.
What should we be paying him a cleaners wage would that make you happier.

You go build a company from scratch and see if you can get it this far down the track. He has done an amazing job and gets the reward he deserves.
