Hi Barg, The rain has fallen high up in the Atacama desert west of the Andes mountains, in northern Chile - The Andes run up the west coast of South America, the Atacama is sandwiched between the Pacific Ocean and the Andes as per the orange and yellow shaded area on below map.
Yes, poor Chilians, obviously flooding downstream, 1 reported dead, 1 missing and 1200 homeless. According to online news, next 10 days looking more than damp.
