I am not against immigrants or refugees in actual need.

What I am against is refugees who come to Australia for the economic benefit. Stay on the dole, misuse the system, add to crime etc.

I myself am an immigrant. Came in 1995, have not been on the dole for a day. Having an accountant degree, i took up the 1st job available, which was in sales. This was in 14 days after arriving in Aus.  Got stamped with SALES & Cust service. Stuck with that since.
So being against immigrants would be hypocritical, when I am one.

Australia takes in its quota from the UN every year.  The boats mainly bring in people who have paid to be brought in.  Refugees should be going to the nearest safe country, and Aus is not the nearest close country to any of the troubled regions. (they travel through multiple countries before boarding a paid boat to get into Aus. They should have seeked asylum in any of those countries enroute)
If they want to still come to Aus, then they should apply for the refugee visa from overseas.  They just want to bypass other refugees who are doing it the correct way. Is that right ?

Even with the African violence in Melbourne, why arent the guilty ones punished or deported.  If we are going to be stuck with the violent criminals, and if it is evident they are from a certain race, then why get more of the same ? There is no point showing humanity to someone who is not willing to do the same in return.

If refugees from a certain location have shown, they integrate into society, get jobs and work and are not a burden to society, then yes, I say get more from there.

The intention is to save people, and not to get screwed by the same.
