I like the sound of that...I imagine you end up with a sort of raw, informal negative space effect, which pretty much requires that you think in reverse with your spatial composition?

For mine...I want to master oils, realist style at first (like the masters), I love the use of everything from pitch black to brilliant white in a piece...especially for mood and atmosphere. I will pursue this aspect of paining however, really only so I eventually have the tools needed to challenge any potential conceptualisation I might want to pursue, away from the confines of realism, so I will not be limited by technical ability or craftsmanship.

My views ultimately, would be to paint subliminal abstracts...to the extent everyone who views them arrives at the same interpretation...a sort of painting for the subconscious, but one immediately understood by all. I am not talking…gee, it looks like a cat sort of thing…lol…no, I want to deal with more primal feelings…fear…hate…love…compassion, etc.

May well take me a lifetime to achieve…then again, I may never.

Along the way, I will entertain myself with personal pieces…have plenty of ideas that will not involve mental torment…lol…or cutting off of one’s ears.

I spent some time with a realist art group when I was 18/19...just 2 hours a week for about 10 months...but it was enough to gear me up for what I know I can achieve. I found it easy...stimulating...and will enjoy it when the time comes.

Have a lifetime of ideas waiting for a brush...the hardest bit will be to hold off whilst I hone my craft.
