Shopping centres generally purchase power at wholesale prices from the grid and then get profit on electricity when reselling onto tenancies. There would likely need to be significant cost savings in order to lure shopping centres off grid. Industrial properties however are more likely (particularly temperature controlled logistics) due to the significant roof span and 24 hour operations requiring high energy consumption. Problem is, new temperature controlled facility construction model is to go higher with a smaller building footprint, which would actually be a detriment to panel capacity. Furthermore, the latest technology is for 'dark space', whereby not having any physical workers with lights off to save on consumption. However, I've heard that some institutional groups are exploring options of solar farm (style) setups on surplus land areas within these facilities. Certainly need to explore those options for energy storage add-ons for Redflow. I assume our team is across this.
