Unfortunately for those farmers that have signed up for the CO2 contracts they have locked themselves away from yet another exciting market. Hyperinflating energy prices are driving unprecedented numbers of projects looking to exploit organic matter such as crop wastes, woodchipped trees (mallees included), sugarcane biogasse for the energy contained. After all we live in a carbon constrained world. This idea we could afford to produce carbon and not look to then reuse it was as crazy as the subsidies thrown at it by some big companies that really should have known better.

Believe it or not CO2 actually has the ability to diversify its focus to include these opportunities in any new contract models it creates. Its up to management to diversify or they are going to find it very hard to compete with other entities which will likely emerge to plant mallees for biomass production destined for energy based opportunities.
