The "egging' was not silly and harmless. The 17 year old just happened to have an egg !!!. Get real. He considers himself a political activist that deliberately had an egg for a calculated act of egging a politician. He deserved a good bunch of fives and the video shows that he was prepared to throw the odd punch himself. Even now he is boasting his action on Facebook, probably collecting a royalty for his posts. He is a junior professional thug seeking notoriety.
Anning has not chosen a good time to make his statements but this IS Australia where he has a right to an opinion and a right of free speech. Both major political parties are trying to make political capital from this episode as are the press.
As for it being "hate" speech, I suggest that is an exaggeration.
