I know a bloke that used to work at a big photographic manufacturer that closed its facility in Aust in the early 2000s due to digital. I don't want to get too specific, but from what he says, and from a few rough calculations, depending upon what they were doing, they would use between 1-2 tones of silver per week. That's a fair bit of silver that ain't being used any more. And Australia weren't the only place that had silver halide manufacturing facilities shut down due to digital and fewer photos being developed.
