Guys I will give you an example. I bought a pair of Georgian candle sticks hallmarked for 1832 from memory. I paid less than $900. Now my intent is to keep them of course but I for a joke sent them off to be valued.
A friendly dispute between my wife and myself who said they weren't worth anymore. Currently 3 of the major auction houses are debating between whether they are worth $4000 - $5000. Not a bad earner a quick 300% to 400% profit.
Likewise I also sent off a jug and bowl hallmarked for 1822 and 1833. Cost me about $350 and $500 each. They have come back with values of $1750 and $2000. Again a nice quick earner. For the record I wouldn't sell them as they are VERY hard to find.
As I said I bought them to keep. But there is a lot of money to be made if you know what you are doing. I don't so I am not about to embark on a life of antiques...LOL. But it was an interesting exercise. BTW I only bought them 3 months ago.
