As the week began Origin Energy seemed to be heading inexorably into the arms of Britain's BG Group. But on Friday, as BG's Sir Robert Wilson was virtually standing at the altar waiting for the bride, word came that Origin had suddenly decided it was selling itself short and the marriage was off.
