Go and ask the Norwegians about the sky falling once more than 50% of new car sales are EVs............... happened to them in March 2019, when 58% of new car sales were EVs.
On climate change policy, I believe Australia is 20 to 30 years behind the rest of the world. To get to where Norway is today with EVs - and where Labor would like to see Australia by 2030 - Norway started supportive policies since the 1990's. So again, I believe Australia is about 20+ years behind global best practice.
But no need to go overseas:
Go ask the South Australians whether about on-demand gas-fired power stations...................... some being replaced by world's largest battery [at the time].
