Irrespective of different geographies, incentives and driving cultures, 58% of new car sales in Norway in March 2019 were EVs.
With more and more countries setting dates for when they will phase out ICE vehicle registration and more and more car manufacturers talking about completely switching out of ICE vehicle and into EV production (
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phase-out_of_fossil_fuel_vehicles), and following on from O.C.'s post, the point he and I were making is that as unlikely as it might sound in Australia, the rest of the world is already planning for a switch to EVs.
All that a delay in embracing EV technology will mean to Australia is that once again, the Lucky Country will miss out on he opportunity to be a world leader and will instead suffer the economic consequences of being a laggard in the global economy.
Australia was - indeed it still is - a world leader in PV technology/research, yet a lack of government understanding and vision means that in a commercial sense Australia has effectively missed out on the PV revolution.
The danger is that whatever opportunities there are in the EV space, Australia will miss out on taking advantage of them, while there are Luddites who question the reality of what is [in my view almost certainly] happening.
