#WeAreAllHodlonaut
This site was created to crowdfund bitcoin to help Hodlonaut fund a looming legal battle with Craig S. Wright. Craig Wright claims to be the pseudonymous creator of Bitcoin, Satoshi Nakamoto. In our reasoned opinion, he has not proven that he is Satoshi Nakamoto, based on the evidence which has been made publicly available to date.
If you’d like to donate, please proceed to the BTCPay portal in the top right corner. Any excess funds will be donated to Bitcoin Venezuela. For context and why donations are needed, read below.
Everyone’s favorite astronautical feline, Hodlonaut, is facing legal action from Craig Wright. The Lightning Torch founder was DMed a letter from Wright’s legal team following a series of tweets in which Hodlonaut claimed, among other things, that Craig Wright was not Satoshi Nakamoto.
Wright has repeatedly claimed that he is Satoshi Nakamoto, despite widespread skepticism among the Bitcoin community that this is the case.
Hodlonaut has since deleted these tweets, along with his Twitter account. While buckling to these demands, he shouldn’t have to buckle to the letter’s other demands, which stipulate that he must publicly acknowledge (on Twitter and in court) that Craig Wright is Satoshi and apologize for his statements. If he doesn’t comply, Wright is threatening to sue him for defamation in an English court.
We reasonably believe that Wright’s demand letter is an attempt to misuse the legal system to suppress the expression of honest opinions. As a result of this threatened litigation, Hodlonaut has been forced to retain UK legal counsel. He has to fund this out of pocket.
Wright is likely to have quite the warchest to cover his own legal costs, so that he could bring an action against this man for vocalizing views on a matter of public interest. Luckily, there’s something we can do to help.
We’re raising funds to ensure that Hodlonaut can continue to fight Craig Wright. He has already retained legal counsel and paid a retainer fee. He may have to pay more still if Wright files suit.
Wright and his associate Calvin Ayre are bent on seeing this through, and they’ve even gone so far as to put out a bounty for 70 BSV (~$5,000) to anyone who can identify Hodlonaut by the tattoos he’s displayed in the few pictures he’s made public online.
This behavior falls well below the standards we expect of friendly competitors in the Bitcoin community, and it affects all of us. If we let people get away with bullying Hodlonaut, there’s nothing to stop the bullies from coming after the rest of us. We need to draw a line, here, now, to show that the Bitcoin community will not tolerate this conduct.
If you have some Sats to spare, please consider donating. All proceeds will go towards funding Hodlonaut’s legal counsel. In the fortunate event that Hodlonaut won’t need this money, all funds will be donated to Bitcoin Venezuela, the same charity that will finally receive the Lightning Torch when it makes its final pass.
As a community, we are resilient. An attack on one of us is an attack on us all. Let’s ensure this kind of conduct is vigorously opposed by us so that it may never happen again.
