FGM is mainly a Muslim practice though so best start there to save the most women from this fate.
"FGM is practised predominantly within certain Muslim societies,[11] but it also exists within some adjacent Christian and animist groups.[12] The practice isn't required by most forms of Islam and many Muslim scholars have declared it un-Islamic.[13] However, FGM was introduced in Southeast Asia by the spread of Shafi'i version of Islamic jurisprudence, which considers the practice obligatory."
