I never considered UCG-CTL to be a "green alternative", but thanks for supplying some actual figures. With concern over CO2 and probable forthcoming carbon trading schemes, whats the attraction of this process? I feel the answer is probably, firstly, in simple economics - at present price of oil it should be profitable. In addition it will be attractive to those countries which value fuel security greater than greenhouse warming, not pointing any fingers :-)
Personally I am waiting for plant commissioning and will probably be out of LNC soon after. CXY is a different proposition using coal fired power stations as a reference.
For green energy my favourites, by a long shot, are geothermal and wind.
