Reading the announcement and looking at the X-Celeprint site it would appear that they are printing p-GaN to produce the microled's. The advantage of RPCVD is that p-GaN can be "buried" (this can't be done for MOCVD since the p-GaN is contaminated with hydrogen from the ammonia used and needs annealing) so I guess, RPCVD is essential (or at least highly desirable - I guess they could use MBE if pushed) to allow the X-Celeprint to work. Another significant advantage is the lower temperature for RPCVD where the MOCVD temperatures may impact the X-Celeprint printing process.
I wonder if the BLG announced European Microled supplier is Osram who are associated with X-Celeprint?
