the strategy you out lined is only under utilized because of the recent changes to the interpretation of laws around SMSF and borrowings.
What was asked though is can your super be used to pay your mortgage, assuming this is referring to a mortgage on the oersons home the answer is still NO
The strategy you are referring to can be used by a SMSF to leverage purcahse an investment
BUT
it does not get around the restriction on a SMSF being able to buy assets of a member unless they are business real assets or listed securities.
Nor does it escape the in-house asset tests and sole purpose test that would prevent a member of a SMSF living in a house owned by the SMSF
