In the old days, pre Medibank, I would go to a doctor in South Yarra, be seen and be sent a bill.
In Carlton I went to a surgery and was asked to pay up front or the doc would be unable to see me.
I don't think it was because I was a new patient because I recall others also discussing payment with
the receptionist.

They were indeed exciting times with the election of Whitlam and Hawke and all of a sudden Australians
stood a whole lot taller. The cringe disappeared and it became The Australian Government and no longer
The Commonwealth of Australia.

Unfortunately decent satire disappeared.
