I also know for a fact there is affordable housing in the US. My point is, there is plenty of poverty over there.

Sure, they got a huge population, so it is harder to manage, although, empathy is not really high on the agenda in America on average.

Of course life is not meant to be easy, otherwise we would all be rich, but most politicians own property themselves (so already there is a conflict of interest). - some quick googling below (acknowledge the most creditable references, though, it makes the point of conflict of interest.
