Labor has again been caught making policy on the run, following an admission in Parliament today that it did not know how its $35 million grant to Toyota would be spent!
Under Coalition questioning, Labor said the contract defining how the funds would be spent was yet to be designed.
In other revelations, Labor:
confirmed that the grant was a "decision of Government" but did not go to Cabinet;
confirmed there was no Departmental advice to provide the grant; and
refused to say when Toyota was first informed about the grant, adding to speculation that it was a $35 million stunt to get a picture opportunity for Kevin Rudd in Japan.
Mr Rudd and Labor continue to make policy on the run. They have done nothing on the key challenges facing Australian families: rising petrol prices, rising grocery prices and interest rates.
