I supported Dyesol/Greatcell for ten years and it looks like I have lost the lot: it would be a miracle if the Tullochs (the founders of the company) managed to rescue any significant fraction of the $150 million plus poured into it. I have been supporting Redflow for years too and am currently 85% under water. I should have learned my lesson, but as an engineer I have lamented for decades the paltry amount of R & D done by Australian companies, the lack of venture capital available in Australia and the unreliability of government policy, so I go on risking being skinned as a mug punter in the hope that at least a small percentage of promising local companies succeed, supported by the kind of people who post on HotCopper. I have taken up my rights.

The big difference between Redflow and GSL is (I hope) the quality of management. Simon Hackett's involvement encourages me and I am sure he will turn himself inside out to bring Redflow into profitabilty. The management also appear to be paying themselves realistic salaries.

The raw materials of the product are cheap and recyclable, but production is complex. Lowering production cost is crucial. If the collaboration with ZBest leads to that as well as volume sales, it will be well worth it.
