US a nice value add stream but the majority of production, particularly the magnet additives will be sold thru to Japan & elsewhere, unless of course Uncle Sam decided to build a strategic stockpile. But if you look lower you'll see they have half a tonne Dy metal, a bit of Eu, and a few tonne of Yttrium, hardly matching the rhetoric. RE is as political US as it is Malaysia.
It is a beachhead, much more could be built on very quickly if the US demonstrated serious intent to create a MSC, or make genuine overtures to a Jap mag maker.
