I work in FS industry. Holding for more than 12 months will mean only 50% of your cap gain is assessed (i.e. $60k rather than $120k) and added to your EOFY tax return and taxed at your marginal tax rate. Holding for less than 12 months will mean the entire cap gain is assessable (i.e. $120k) and added to your EOFY tax return and taxed at your marginal tax rate. If it is held in your SMSF or through a super fund, there are different implications. Cap gains can be offset by cap losses carried through from previous financial years or in the current financial year.
Definitely consult an accountant though. All general info and IMO.
