11 months and suddenly 'advanced discussions' take place which require the application to be withdrawn? I'm thinking it could be the lawyers for ASX and LSE may have made the suggestion to delay the process, maybe to get it listed on the LSE first and prevent any bad image which might prevent it for being listed? Seems like a plausible strategy seeing their history with the ASX. If that's the case I wouldn't be suprised if that decision was made before they even submitted it.
