In the Indo legal system you are guilty because you have it in your bag.
Simple as that.
There is no jury.
You can try to provide evidence to prove your innocence yes.
Some of those would be
Fingerprints
DNA
CCTV footage
Weight of bags before and after
Non tampering of the bag would be nice too
But none of this was allowed or it was erased,lost.
The DNA was offered but it was Mercedes who declined that.
And I think we may find out more as to why next episode.

Here in Australia you can be charged with possession but not convicted unless a jury does so.
And it has to be beyond reasonable doubt.
