I see there's some mighty big ignorant statements coming from a bloke who lives in the tropics far from the Murray Darling system!
Turnbull never needed to care about the environment he just needed to his job ensuring sustainability and minimal impact going forward. That is exactly what he was setting out to achieve.
The previous government had a very detailed plan on how they would save the Murray system. To deny the benefit of lining thousands of kilometers of channels displays sheer ignorance.
I know of a city in Victoria that requires releasing of 3 times the amount of water needed at delivery point in order to account for leakage and losses in the channel system.
This information has been known for years, yet the previous government was the first to take real action. Rudd the self crowned champion of all things green matched the plan pre election while his ALP mates in Vic thwarted any efforts made to progress the project.
Interesting it is that Brumby has copied some of these water saving measures. He though is not giving the saved water back to the agricultural industry or increasing environmental flows. The saved water is going via pipeline to the city!!!!
And what did the Vic ALP do about the earlier mentioned leaky channel system??? They still use it an now have built a pipeline from the other side of the stat to compensate for the waste!
