The hedge funds could be still mucking around. But to make a profit from shorting they really need bad news to help drive the sp lower and scare out investors at the bottom so they can close their short positions.
But if the bad news is over, then they could by just driving the sp lower to go long in time for the good news. We got some good news today from Apache...
Apache says Australia gas output back by Aug 15
PERTH, June 23 (Reuters) - Apache Corp (APA.N) said on Monday it expects to restore partial natural gas production of 60% (180 million cubic feet) by mid-August and plans to ramp up output at its Varanus Island gas plant in west Australia to 315 mcf by December.
