Big Brother's under your hood: Govt trials new speed tracker

Cutting-edge technology to slow speeding drivers is being trialled by the NSW Government.

100 cars will participate in the 18-month trial of the speeding technology, called Intelligent Speed Adaptation (ISA), which uses satellites and GPS-like devices.

The ISA system employs in-car technology and speed-zone maps to warn the driver to slow down if they’re doing more than the speed limit.

If the driver ignores the warning, fuel supply to the engine is decreased, forcing them under the limit.

If successful, the government says there’s no reason why all cars can’t be fitted with the devices.

“Speeding is the biggest killer on our roads – this kind of technology has the potential to help cut the road toll and save lives,” NSW Roads Minister Eric Roozendaal said.
