Also, to my understanding, the composite cultured skin (CCS) is grown in the bioreactor on a substrate of BTM or a BTM-like PolyNovo product. Hence the term "composite" in the term CCS.
Originally the CCS project was a sort of joint venture between PolyNovo, but for a multitude of reasons, not the least of which is that running bio-reactors culturing patients own skin cells wasn't really within the PolyNovo wheelhouse. In any case, the treatment of sever burns first with BTM to reestablish a healthy dermis, followed by the application of a cultured skin epidermis will become the gold standard for the treatment of serious burns, as it eliminates or at least reduces the need for split-skin grafts.
