There are several Biblical overlays here.

The first overlay is the red letter (Jesus) vs. black letter (Paul) hierarchy in the scriptures.

Paul is recorded as being specifically opposed to homosexuality whereas Jesus is only recorded as opposing sexual immorality in terms of unfaithfulness. I would interpret unfaithfulness to cover any form of dishonest, exploitive or promiscuous sexual relationship but that's just my interpretation.

A second overlay is Paul's Romanisation of Christianity, to make it more acceptable to the powers in Rome. This tangent concluded with a particular clique (the Council of Nicea) determining which books and teachings should be included in a Bible and which books should be destroyed and forgotten. Jesus may have been infallible but most of us would agree that political committees are not infallible.

And so the dispute between Christians who focus on red letter teachings and those who assign equal weight to black letter teachings in the New Testament and or the history of Israel as chronicled in the Old Testament has no basis for resolution.

I can't resolve this unsolvable dispute because nobody will change their minds on any of it regardless. If a truce were called we could leave it to God to be the judge of some things. In the meantime, science is coming to the same conclusion that was once attributed to Jesus, that being if people are born a particular way, leave them be.

    cheers
