I do know the difference between tax loss and tax gain selling, and the point I was trying to make is that
a) people who are thinking about tax gain selling after 1st July must have a very clear and present need of the cash, as selling anything before you have to is never a great idea if it is already undervalued fundamentally.
b) if you are waiting for people in group (a) to sell before buying, you may be disappointed, as surely those people who need to sell for tax LOSS reasons will have suppressed the price to a level to make it not worth bothering to sell for tax GAIN reasons.
