is the world crazy by buying made in china, page-51

I stumbled across this thread by accident, but when I read it I could almost not believe what I am reading. Are the people here, who are angry with 'China', serious, or is this an elaborate joke?

Get real, it is a global economy. Right now China is doing what the west did in the 19th and 20th C, industrializing. They are producing the hardware, while the west produces the softwware. Steve Jobs designs the iphones, they are built in China (or wherever) and sold globally. Everyone comes out ahead.

There is no threat to the west. Could China cease production of its products, yes. Will they? No. They would suffer far more, and what would happen? If the flow of socks and plasma tvs ceased 10 mins later India, or someone else, would grab the contracts.

The reality is that production of physical goods is easy and cheap. There is no need for us in the west to want to make our stuff. The 3rd world can do it better and cheaper. The same can be said of food. We should stop subsidizing inefficient farmers and allow the market to decide where food should be grown and how it should be sold.

I will add that those who fear a powerful China miss the point. China is one country, with many problems, both now and in the future. Much of its new infrastructure is poorly designed and built, in 10-20 years it will need rebuilding, its education system is poor, corrupt and stagnant. etc. Look beyond the news paper headlines.

One final thought, the idea that 'China' or 'Australia' exists is an illusion. Countries are legal entities, Aust is just over a century old, created by the British Parliament. What matters is a global economy is individuals and business.
