That isn't information that I for one have at my fingertips.

I look at it a bit differently ... ucg is "virtual coal mining" and is significantly more efficient in terms of recovered energy than long wall mining and in some cases open pit mining.

Why? Because ucg gets to utilise 70 to 80% of the calorific energy in a coal seam. So, its an incredibly compact, energy dense proposition. I think that at Kingaroy an area of just 2.5km2 will support a 400MW project for 25yrs. That is probably something like 35 to 40 mill tonnes.

So, I dont think at this stage it is necessary to tie up a coal resource of billions of tonnes to have a viable ucg business, particularly in just one or a few locations. In Cougar's case, one assumes that MOU's in Pakistan, India and Victoria provide for sensible commercial access to coal in the 100's to 1000's of million tonnes as required.

    Cheers
    Dex
