Conditions now are similar to those of the 1974 selloff. that was before my time so my knowledge of specifics is sketchy. i know high oil prices were one of triggers of that crash. i also know gold went to all time highs a few years after that crash and investors were buying gold shares for 5c and 20c in 1975 and selling them for $100 in 1980.
there is no reason the resource boom could not continue even if we have a major crash (think post 1987). but I am wondering can anyone tell me what happened to commodity prices and aussie resource stocks during the period of the crash ??
As conditions are similar today the past may give us a glimpse of our immediate future...or maybe not.
i am trying to ascertain if resources right now are a safe haven or a fool's paradise ?? I am in cash 100% and think perhaps it safer to stay that way atm.
