    Thanks for your post Opaline. From what I have read, the Cooper Basin does have some of the hottest rocks, although they are deeper than some of the others. The remote location is a challenge, but not one that cannot be overcome. If geothermal works then the transmission line will be built, especially if other geothermal companies set up in the area and if there is a nearly endless supply of cheap electricity on offer. I guess your point is that GDY has a competitive advantage right now based on in-house expertise and know-how. I don't think that advantage will last very long if geothermal is shown to work and GDY will fade from the scene.

    Bingo22: You make perfect sense, but your rationale does not mean that GDY will be a successful commercial enterprise.

    Chewy: Setting up an off-shore oil rig is not analogous to setting up geothermal power generation. Oil is scarcer, barriers to entry are higher, cost is far greater, and I reckon that if you looked into it you would find that established cashed-up oil companies were the ones that developed offshore oil, not a small start-up company.
