with fear of keeping this going (which i do not) the devil in me makes 2 points;

1. it was CSIR that supported the introduction of the cane toad in oz, and
2. the "pollution" on the surface of the chinese lakes is a result of chinese actions, whilst the "pollution" sinking to the lake bed is being put there by an aussie company ........

but i agree with the points you are making and realise that none of this has easy solutions - but still worthy of rationale discussion.
