Had these concerns too, but Mick came to the rescue with the upshot being that, these so-called alternates are non proven and in development (especially sodium) plus lithium is here now, proven, stable and very important, light in weight!
Institutions like Maquarie and Wesfarmers (KDR) are NOT investing in OLD technology.
