Below is a link to the above paper by Morgan Stanley on why investors, particularly superfund, would invest in Infrastruture assets.

Remember there is a mountain of contribution money going into Australian superfunds every day.

The current issue is one of sentiments as most advisors are proclaiming the death of listed infrastructure and utilities funds.
What they have missed I believe is the fact that the assets are fundamentally great investment for superfund but the real issue in the current credit constrained environment is one of structuring of the assets for investment by the public. If this market sector remains depressed for any length of time, it would not surprise at all if these listed funds are all privatised. Large superfunds (eg Canadian Teachers Pension fund) fully understand the attractiveness of these assets as long term investment.
