Purely speculating. Mal may have been moved back to GRD Minproc purposely. He came back as COO after the demise of Amara after he was provided with a DCM.

GRD may just spinoff the GRL side of the business. However Mal would want to be at GRD Minproc not with GRL.

As I said I am purely speculating. IMO GRD Minproc would be far better off as a pure engineering design and construct company. They do this so well.
