I won’t have a word said against Bob Brown. He single handedly snatched defeat from the jaws of a certain Bill Shorter victory by touring QLD telling unbelieving Queenslanders how to run their state better than they could, he’s my hero. Although Sarah H-Y makes him look like a stable minded paragon of sanity (NB I did not say virtue).

Lynas regulatory update didn’t actually mention any formal Govt request for a proposed PDF location. Seems unlikely it could be requested, submitted back and decided upon in the timeframe required before licence renewal mid-Aug. Maybe what Dr M is saying is the Cabinet have already collectively already approved licence renewal, but “subject to approval of the PDF plan”?
Not sure if that just strings the fun out further or whether it plays into Lynas hands giving them sufficient time for alternatives ? It seems to me it would have cut a long story short if Lynas had just constructed the PDF years ago using the AELB deposit which effectively cost them nothing extra. The only reason I can think they didn’t do that is they were convinced fertiliser and road base applications for the residue would eventually be approved. In my view, even if this licence renewal is made subject to an approved PDF plan there is still every chance commercial applications for the WLP residue will be approved before any approved PDF construction actually commences, negating any need for it. It’s still a purely political decision and will probably continue to depend solely on which lunatics are running the asylum.
